Following the completion of Seema Prem’s engineering and business degrees, her initial career involved being a pivotal member of the team that introduced mobile services to South India. She fondly remembers facilitating the very first mobile call in her hands during the late 90s.
Later on, driven by a passion to tackle some of the world’s most urgent challenges, she pursued a fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. It was during her time at MIT, while working on a project related to financial inclusion, that the potential for significant transformation became evident.
Throughout her project, Seema discovered that more than 50 percent of the global population lacked access to banking services, underscoring the vast untapped potential within the realm of financial inclusion. Inspired to make a difference, she decided to leverage her expertise in mobile services to address this issue. She presented her innovative business concept at the MIT100K entrepreneurship contest, an event organized by the institute. This competition serves as a platform for students and researchers from MIT and the Greater Boston region to showcase their talents and ideas, and it marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey.
