Beyang Liu

Beyang Liu is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder of Sourcegraph, a role he has held since April 2013. Sourcegraph is a company dedicated to building a fast, semantic code search and cross-reference engine. Located in San Francisco, Beyang has been instrumental in leading the development of Sourcegraph over the past 10 years and 10 months.

EDUCATION

Beyang Liu pursued his education in Computer Science at Stanford University, where he honed his skills and laid the foundation for his successful career in technology and software development.

CAREER

Prior to his role at Sourcegraph, Beyang Liu worked as a Software Engineer at Palantir Technologies from June 2011 to January 2013. During his time at Palantir, he was part of a customer-facing team that developed new products for Fortune 100 clients. His responsibilities included prototyping and implementing skunkworks software for the analysis of large home mortgage datasets. Additionally, he played a role in re-architecting a financial data explorer used by top hedge funds.

Beyang’s academic background includes a Research Assistant position at Stanford University from June 2009 to June 2011. Under the guidance of Daphne Koller and Stephen Gould, he designed, implemented, and published novel computer vision algorithms. His research, titled “Single Image Depth Estimation From Predicted Semantic Labels,” presented at CVPR 2010, showcased a unique approach to estimating the depth of each pixel in a scene from a single monocular image. The incorporation of semantic features allowed for state-of-the-art results with a simpler model than previous works.

Notably, Beyang Liu also had a stint as a Software Engineering Intern at Google in 2010, where he worked with the Google Apps backend team.
