Akshaya Moondra holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), one of India’s foremost telecom service providers. Prior to taking on the role of CEO in August 2022, Akshaya served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of VIL for a four-year period. During his tenure as CFO, he played a pivotal role in managing the company’s finances with prudence, ensuring that the benefits of the world’s largest telecom integration were effectively realized by the enterprise. Under his leadership, VIL successfully executed one of the largest public equity issuances in India in 2019.
EDUCATION
In terms of his educational background, Akshaya is an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and holds qualifications as a Company Secretary.
CAREER
Before his role as CFO, Akshaya served as the CFO of Idea Cellular Ltd starting in 2008 and was additionally appointed as a Whole Time Director from July 2016 until the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular in August 2018. Akshaya’s association with the Aditya Birla Group (ABG) dates back to 1986 when he joined Grasim Industries, and since then, he has held various roles across the ABG companies. In 1989, he moved to Thailand, where he spent two decades working with multiple ABG companies, including South East Pulp, Thai Rayon, Thai Epoxy and Allied Products, and Thai Acrylic Fibre. He later returned to India in 2008.
Akshaya Moondra’s financial acumen and leadership have earned him notable recognition. He was ranked as the Top CFO in Indian listed companies across sectors for 2016 by Finance Asia and was among the Top 3 CFOs in Asia in the Telecom Sector by Institutional Investor for four consecutive years between 2011 and 2016.
