Amir completed his early education at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School before relocating to Delhi. He enrolled at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, to pursue a Bachelor of Technology degree.
CAREER
In 1998, Amit commenced his career as a software engineer at Tata Consultancy Services. Subsequently, in 2000, he became part of the software development company Trilogy, where he contributed to projects like YourBuddyBill’s websites. In 2006, Amit left his job and relocated to his hometown to care for his ailing father.
Teaming up with his brother, they took over their father’s business and achieved remarkable profits. This success led them to establish their venture, GirnarSoft, focusing on home garages and mechanical software. In 2008, after attending the Auto Expo in New Delhi, Amit and his brother conceived the idea of creating an application platform for informed car buying and selling, giving rise to CarDekho.com.
During their initial year in the venture, they encountered significant challenges, grappling with losses exceeding one crore due to the 2009 stock market crash. The lack of available funds posed a hurdle to the company’s growth. However, CarDekho’s fortunes eventually turned around, yielding favorable returns. In 2015, Amit made the strategic choice to diversify their business across multiple sectors, including Bikes (BikeDekho), Academics (CollegeDekho), and Insurance (InsuranceDekho), among others..
