Anil Gochikar is an Indian bodybuilder who has represented his country in a number of international bodybuilding competitions. Anil rose to prominence after a photo of him dragging chariots during the Jagannath Rath Yatra went viral. He is renowned locally as Lord Jagannath’s bodyguard in the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Anil Kumar Gochikar (Anil Gochikar) was born at Harichandi Sahi, Puri, Odisha on Wednesday, June 7, 1978 (age 44 as of 2022). Gemini is his astrological sign. He has a legal degree.
Harihar Gochikar, his father, was a Brahmin pandit at the Jagannath temple and the owner of the ‘Hotel Gochhikar’ in Puri, Odisha. In 2006, he passed away. Swarnalata Gochhikar is Anil’s mother’s name.
Damodar Gochikar, Anil’s elder brother, is a national-level bodybuilder and athlete.
Anil Gochikar is married with one daughter, Anuradha.
Anil practises Hinduism. He is a servant of Odisha’s Puri Jagannath Temple.
Anil is a pandit from the Brahmin community.
CAREER
Anil started working out at a gym in 2009. Anil Gochikar acquired professional training in Mumbai from Alok Behera. Anil competed in his first bodybuilding contest in 2012, when he competed in Mr Odisha 50th Senior State Body Building Championship. Because the weight limit was 65kg, Anil had to run for 400 gms to lose the 400 gms because he weighed 64.5 Kg. Anil got a gold medal in this competition.
Anil then competed in a number of national and international bodybuilding events.
Since their father’s death in 2006, Anil and Damodar Gochhikar have run their father’s hotel, ‘Hotel Gochhikar,’ in Puri district, Odisha. The Gochhikar brothers own a gym named Gocchikar Life Style- GYM at Hotel Gochhikar.
CONTROVERSY
Anil and his mother held a dharna at the Puri Collector’s office in January 2022, alleging the administration of forcibly evicting them from their building near the Jagannath Temple without compensation. Anil claims that their building was forcibly demolished while the case was still pending in the Orissa High Court.
