CAREER

Ashwini Malhotra initiated his career less than a year ago. Before joining Weikfield, he had previous experience working at one company.

Ashwini Malhotra, son of Satpal and the Managing Director of the company, shares the story of his father’s resilience in the post-independence era. Despite challenges, Satpal’s robust business acumen laid the foundation for Ashwini to develop a Rs 300 crore business empire.

During the 1930s, Ashwini’s grandfather owned a department store in Rawalpindi but unfortunately passed away at a young age.

IN AN INTERVIEW

Ashwini proudly recounts, “When my grandfather passed away, my dad, just a boy then, inherited the business and shouldered immense responsibility.” Chuckling, he adds, “While my dad was small and short, my granddad was the opposite—tall, robust, donning Pakhtoon headgear and commanding attention. Known for his booming voice at Malhotra Grand Auction Mart, he was everyone’s favorite. Present at The Jallianwala Baug during Colonel Dyer’s orders to open fire, my grandfather was presumed dead, only to surprise everyone by quietly appearing at his own funeral on the third day after the massacre.

Fatefully, his grandfather escaped bullets by being buried under a pile of others. Adding to life’s twists, a few years later, when Ashwini’s dad’s marriage was set for January 30, 1948, an unexpected turn occurred – the day of Gandhiji’s assassination. Life’s peculiarities indeed!
