According to Indian media, their marriage was the first openly gay marriage in Kolkata, and it was celebrated in accordance with all Hindu rituals and customary customs. Soon after their wedding, photos of the couple became popular on various social media sites.

CAREER

Cheitan Sharma began working as an Android Application Developer Trainee with Global Space Web Technologies Private Limited in August 2012. He was trained there till December 2012. He then joined Mewar University in December 2012 as Training and Placement Officer, where he remained till February 2015. He worked as a Digital Marketing Analyst for the Return On Web (ROW) organisation from February to July 2015. Cheitan Sharma joined SRV Media Pvt. Ltd. in July 2015 as a Digital Media Marketing manager, a role he held until November 2015. Cheitan Sharma began working as a Team Leader at Google Ads Optimization in Gurugram, Haryana, India in November 2015 and remained there until February 2016. Cheitan Sharma was then promoted to a higher position within the same organisation and named a Quality Specialist in June 2016. The following month, he left this organisation to work as a Digital Media Marketing Manager for Accenture in Gurugram, India. Cheitan Sharma was in charge till February 2021. Cheitan Sharma joined Google Operations Center in February 2021 as a Training Delivery Sr. Specialist in Digital Marketing and Research.

On June 3, 2022, his name appeared on Google with the headline that he married Abhishek Ray, a Kolkata-based fashion designer.
Cheitan Sharma discussed his friendship with Abhishek Ray in a media interview. He added that he met Abhishek Ray in person in 2020, following the lifting of the COVID-19 lockdown in India. They had been Facebook buddies for a long time before meeting in person. In the same conversation, his gay partner, Abhishek Ray, mentioned that they were planning a vacation to Agra after the COVID-19 lockdown was lifted in India. Ray claimed that Cheitan Sharma proposed to him in front of the Taj Mahal, and the proposal was in the style of a film, which was a dream come true moment for him. “We took a trip to Agra, where he proposed to me in a very filmic style, directly in front of the Taj Mahal,” Ray explained.  Because I casually mentioned to him that I am a Bollywood fan and that it was my desire to visit the Taj Mahal with my girlfriend.”
The couple’s wedding was held in public on July 3, 2022, in Kolkata. Several news outlets covered their marriage story. Cheitan Sharma wore a sherwani to the wedding, while Abhishek Ray wore a dhoti-kurta. They appeared to be Bengali grooms. Only close family and friends were invited to their wedding ceremonies. Cheitan Sharma’s gay partner, Abhishek Ray, told a media outlet on their wedding night that both of them were fully aware that their marriage would not receive legal status and recognition in India, and that they would not refer to themselves as lawfully wedded. He stated, “I prefer to refer to it as a wedding ceremony. I can’t say I’m legally married, but I am married, and Chaitanya is my husband.”
Cheitan Sharma stated in the same interview that he felt lucky and blessed after marrying Abhishek Ray. During the same session, Cheitan Sharma advised all members of India’s LGBTQ+ community to tackle the problems head on and fight for their rights and desires. “I feel privileged and lucky to have Abhishek as my husband, life partner, and best friend,” Cheitan Sharma said. He is a wonderful and generous person. What else can I reasonably expect from a partner?”
Cheitan Sharma and his gay partner revealed in a media interview following their wedding on July 3, 2022, that finding suitable priests from the Bengali and Marwari communities was the most difficult problem they experienced throughout their wedding preparations. Many priests turned down their demands, they said, but their family priest, who handled their wedding rituals, agreed right away.
