DeHaat is one of the startups in the agritech industry with the quickest growth rates and one of the few companies providing all-encompassing services and solutions to India’s farming community. We are creating AI-enabled technology to revolutionise the agricultural industry’s supply chain and production efficiency. More than a million farmers in Bihar, UP, Odisha, and West Bengal are currently served by our network. We intend to extend this network to five million farmers by 2024.
DeHaat, which was started by graduates of IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIM Ahmedabad, and other prestigious institutions, is currently a fully funded start-up with a growth rate of 3–4 times annually. Over the past eight years of our activities, we have made an incredible effect at the grassroots level, which has been acknowledged and celebrated by NASSCOM, Forbes, ET, Niti Aayog, the Bill Gates Foundation, and many other organisations.
A GLIMPSE INTO DEHAAT’S JOURNEY
Getting acceptance from farmers was one of the early difficulties they encountered. They changed to this viewpoint in order to comprehend the farmers’ viewpoint. “And that’s when we discovered that these farmers lack the capacity for taking risks. If you want them to alter their cropping strategy, you are recommending it because it might increase their profits, but they view it more risk-aversely. This aided in the development of our farmer’s first thesis for DeHaat.”
They also discovered that this was not a new industry and that in order to acquire the industry’s trust, they would need to first deliver. Another difficulty they encountered was persuading investors of the viability of their business model and the opportunity it offered as the model began to bear fruit and it was time to scale.
