Indira Devi, whose real name was Shri Ghattamaneni Indira Devi, was an Indian woman famous for being the wife of the late veteran Telugu actor Krishna Ghattamaneni and the mother of the renowned Telugu actor Mahesh Babu.

Indira Devi was born on 20th April 1952 in Andhra Pradesh, India. Indira Devi was primarily known as a housewife and was cherished for her role as a loving and caring mother.
On 28th September 2022, she sadly passed away at the age of 70 at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad after battling a prolonged illness. Her son, Mahesh Babu, announced the news of her demise on his social media account, expressing his grief and sharing a picture of his beloved mother.
After the passing of Krishna’s second wife, veteran Telugu actress A G Vijaya Nirmala, on 28th June 2019, Krishna decided to live with Vijaya Nirmala’s son, senior actor Naresh. Vijaya Nirmala had directed 44 Telugu films during her career.
According to Mahesh Babu, his mother was always gentle and never scolded him during his childhood. He fondly remembered her as a kind and compassionate individual. In a media conversation at the beginning of 2022, Mahesh Babu shared a ritual he followed before the release of his films, where he would visit his mother’s house and have coffee, considering it as prasada (blessed offering) from a temple.
Indira Devi had three sons and three daughters. Her sons were Mahesh Babu, Ramesh Babu, and Naresh (from Krishna’s previous marriage). Her daughters were Padmavathi, Manjula, and Priyadarshini. Tragically, her elder son Ramesh Babu, who was a Telugu actor and producer, passed away on 10th January 2022.
Indira Devi’s elder daughter, Padmavathi, was a homemaker and married to industrialist Galla Jaydev, who served as a Member of Parliament for the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh. Manjula, her second daughter, worked as an actress, producer, and director in the Telugu film industry. Her youngest daughter, Priyadarshini, was married to Telugu actor Sudheer Babu.
Indira Devi will be remembered for her warmth and love as a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, playing an essential role in supporting her family and being an integral part of the Ghattamaneni family. Her passing was mourned by her family, friends, and fans, leaving behind cherished memories of her affectionate presence.
