Jyoti Maurya is a prominent figure in Uttar Pradesh as an SDM (Sub-divisional Magistrate) in the Provincial Civil Services (PCS). She gained significant attention in 2023 when her husband, Alok Maurya, accused her of infidelity with a man named Manish Dubey, who works as a Home Guard Commandant in Ghaziabad. This controversy sparked public interest and led to several subsequent events.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Jyoti Maurya was born on 9th September 1990 in Chiraigaon village, Varanasi (popularly known as Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India. She hails from Varanasi and belongs to the Valmiki caste, classified as OBC. Her father’s name is Parasnath Maurya, but her mother’s name is not known.

Jyoti Maurya married Alok Maurya on 19th November 2010. Alok works as a sweeper in the Uttar Pradesh government. The couple has two daughters born in 2015.

EDUCATION

After marrying Alok Maurya in November 2010, Jyoti expressed her desire to pursue further studies. Supportive of her aspirations, Alok helped her enroll at a coaching center in Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad). Jyoti studied at Vajirao & Reddy Institute and Disha IAS Academy under the guidance of D. N. Pandey. In 2015, she achieved the 16th rank in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Combined State/Upper Subordinate examination, marking the beginning of her career as an Administrative Officer.

CAREER

Jyoti Maurya started her career as a Deputy Collector after successfully completing her training for the PCS on 5th July 2016. She served as the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) or Deputy Collector in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh from 5th July 2016 to 16th October 2017. Later, she held the position of Deputy Collector in both Sirathu and Chail tehsils in the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh from 17th October 2017 to 5th October 2021.

She then served as the Deputy Collector of Pratapgarh district from 6th October 2021 to 22nd October 2021. Subsequently, she assumed the role of Deputy Collector in Prayagraj district from 23rd October 2021 to 31st March 2023. There were reports suggesting her appointment as the General Manager (GM) at a sugar mill located in the Bareilly district, but this information could not be verified.

CONTROVERSY

In June 2023, Jyoti Maurya’s husband, Alok Maurya, publicly accused her of having an extra-marital affair with Manish Dubey, a Home Guard Commandant in Ghaziabad. Alok claimed that Manish’s wife informed him about the affair in 2020. According to Alok, Jyoti and Manish initially met on Facebook, and he confronted Jyoti after witnessing them meeting in Lucknow, where they allegedly spent the night together at a hotel called Myriad.

Alok also released WhatsApp chat messages between Jyoti and Manish as evidence of their intimacy. He further alleged that Jyoti maintained a diary documenting bribes she had taken during her time as an SDM. Alok sought help from Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and claimed to have filed a complaint with the police in April 2023, but no action was taken against Jyoti. He also accused Jyoti of conspiring with Manish to harm him.

Jyoti Maurya responded to these allegations by asserting her innocence and stating that she would address them in court. In retaliation, she filed an FIR against her husband and his family members for harassment related to dowry. The Director General of Home Guards, B. K. Maurya, ordered an investigation into the matter.

In July 2023, a video went viral in which Jyoti was accused of using casteist slurs against Alok and his family. Jyoti denied the authenticity of the video, claiming it was fake. The Bhim Army staged a protest against Jyoti Maurya following the video’s circulation and urged the police to take appropriate action against her.

2. Jyoti’s husband, Alok, accused her of misrepresenting his occupation before their marriage. He claimed that she thought he was a Panchayati Raj Officer, but she later discovered that he worked as a sweeper.
3. Several songs addressing the alleged affair involving Jyoti Maurya gained popularity among the public, such as ‘SDM Bante Hi Bhul Gailu,’ ‘SDM Jyoti Maurya Case,’ and ‘Jyoti Maurya Alok Maurya Ki Kahani.’
