His journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University. This foundation in biological sciences would later complement his understanding of the pharma and diagnostics sectors.
CAREER
Karanth’s career trajectory started with Eli Lilly and Company, where he joined as a Trainee Territory Manager. His responsibilities involved launching diabetes and critical care products in Western Andhra Pradesh. His achievements were notable, as he emerged as the top seller for the company’s insulin brand in the country. His prowess in selling and his natural knack for the pharmaceutical industry allowed him to quickly advance, becoming an Area Sales Manager based in Lucknow. In this role, he oversaw sales in Central Uttar Pradesh, leading a team of Territory Managers and implementing effective sales strategies.
Subsequently, Kamal Karanth transitioned to XCyton Diagnostics Private Limited. Here, he played a pivotal role in the marketing and sales of the company’s diagnostic kits. His contributions extended from Karnataka to pan-India operations, establishing a sales and distribution network. His engagement with healthcare professionals across the country broadened his exposure to the medical community and further developed his industry insights.
One of the most significant chapters of Kamal’s career unfolded at Ma Foi Randstad, where he held the position of Director & Head APAC. His journey began with establishing a strong base of profitable business as a Business Development Consultant for Temp Staffing in Bangalore. He then led operations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, launching multiple branches in Tier 2 cities. His responsibilities expanded as he took charge of the APAC operations, based in Kuala Lumpur. He orchestrated the establishment and turnaround of operations in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore. His effective leadership style was evident in his ability to manage a multinational team comprising 12 nationalities. The integration of APAC operations under Randstad’s brand marked a significant achievement, solidifying Randstad’s position as a major player in the recruitment industry.
Karanth’s career also featured a transformative role at Kelly Services, where he worked as the Managing Director. His mandate was to revitalize Kelly India’s operations, and his leadership was instrumental in turning the business into a high-margin specialized recruitment enterprise. His achievements included the successful launch of KellyOCG, a premium consulting brand, in 2008, further enhancing Kelly’s offerings. His concurrent role in managing Kelly Malaysia’s operations showcased his ability to operate in both market-leading and challenger roles, underscoring his versatility as a leader.
