CAREER

Mickey embarked on his career journey as a makeup artist with Kajol’s makeup for the movie “Bekhudi” in 1992, marking his debut in the film industry. His exceptional talent has been celebrated with numerous awards, including the Technical Excellence award for Best Makeup in movies like “Kal Ho Naa Ho” (2003) and “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” (2001). He also earned an IIFA Award for Best Makeup and was honored at the ELLE Beauty Awards as a Makeup Artist Icon in 2017. His prowess in the field even led to him receiving The Specialist Award at the Filmfare Glamour and Style Awards in 2019.

In terms of his preferences, Mickey Contractor holds Kishore Kumar as his favorite singer and admires the legendary actress Helen Ann Richardson Khan. Joe Malone perfumes and the color black are among his favored things. His work in the makeup industry commands an approximate salary of 25,000 Indian Rupees per makeup session.

Mickey Contractor is known for his distinctive makeup style, and he has worked with a galaxy of Indian celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nita Ambani, Shilpa Shetty, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, to name a few.

Before stepping into the beauty industry, Mickey Contractor pursued a science-oriented education. Initially, his mother was concerned about his career choice, but she later supported him. His journey in the field began as a hairdresser in a salon in 1970, where he learned the art of hairstyling at Tokyo Beauty Parlour in Mumbai. It was during this time that he had the opportunity to style Helen’s hair, which led to his fascination with makeup artistry.

Despite facing challenges, Mickey’s perseverance paid off, and he became a makeup artist for portraits alongside photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha. His big break came when he was approached to do Kajol’s makeup for her debut film “Bekhudi,” forging a strong friendship with the actress.

Mickey Contractor earned the moniker “Makeup guru of Bollywood” for his work in iconic films such as “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,” “Dil Toh Pagal Hai,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Mohabbatein,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” and many more. He took a hiatus from the film industry to work in advertising for a decade, mastering complex makeup techniques. However, his talents were soon recognized, leading to his return to the film industry.

Apart from his illustrious film career, Mickey Contractor is an animal lover, often sharing pictures of his beloved pet named “Mowgli” on Instagram. He has also served as a judge at various beauty award shows, including the Vogue Beauty Awards and ELLE Beauty Awards.

Mickey’s association with M.A.C Cosmetics India led to him becoming the Director of Makeup Artistry, and he even launched his own makeup products in collaboration with M.A.C. Some of his most popular products include M·A·C Paint Pot in “Bare Study,” M·A·C “Smolder” Eye Kohl, and M·A·C “Carbon” Eyeshadow, among others.

Over his impressive 30-year career in the film industry, Mickey Contractor is celebrated for his signature smokey eye look, famously seen on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor. However, he has also championed the dewy no-makeup look, which he introduced to India, earning him the title of the creator of the ‘NO-MAKEUP LOOK.’
