Moon Moon Sen, initially known as an actress, transitioned into the realm of Indian politics. She is the daughter of the renowned Bengali actress, Suchitra Sen.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Moon Moon Sen is married to Bharat Dev Verma, a descendant of the Royal Family of Tripura State. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she contested from the Asansol Constituency. Born on Sunday, 28 March 1954, in 24 Parganas, Kolkata, her zodiac sign is Aries.

EDUCATION

Moon Moon Sen received her primary education from Loretto Convent Shillong and Loretto House Kolkata. Following that, she pursued her graduation from Somerville College, Oxford, England, and obtained a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University.

CAREER

Before embarking on her acting career, Moon Moon Sen explored various professional avenues. She worked as a teacher in Ballygunge Girls’ School and later in Chitrabani School, where she taught Graphics. Moon Moon Sen also had stints at All India Radio and Ballygunge Government High School in Kolkata. She got married and became a mother before entering the film industry. Moon Moon Sen is not only an actress but also a businesswoman who owns an interior design store and a consultancy. She attributes her success to the unwavering support of her husband and acknowledges his encouragement in her political journey.

Moon Moon Sen joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) after her mother’s demise in 2014. She was chosen by Mamata Banerjee as the TMC candidate for the Bankura Lok Sabha Constituency in West Bengal. Coming from a Kayastha family, Moon Moon Sen had a privileged upbringing. Her father, Dibanath Sen, was a wealthy businessman in Kolkata, and her mother, Suchitra Sen, achieved fame as an actress in Bengali and Bollywood films. Moon Moon Sen married Bharat Dev Verma, and they have two daughters, Raima Sen and Riya Sen.

Moon Moon Sen began her career in Bengali films and gained success, leading to opportunities in other film industries such as Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bhojpuri. She made her Bollywood debut in the 1984 film “Andar Bahaar,” where her bold role garnered attention. Known for her daring approach, Moon Moon Sen was among the first actresses to popularize bikini photoshoots. Although her Bollywood career wasn’t extremely successful, she made an impact with her audacious roles.

In 2004, Moon Moon Sen gained international acclaim for her role in the film “My Karma,” directed by Korak Day, which received numerous international awards. Her portrayal of a strong yet compassionate Indian wife garnered significant recognition. Moon Moon Sen joined politics by aligning with the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2014. She contested and won the Lok Sabha seat from Bankura, defeating the 9-time CPI (M) MP Basudeb Acaria. Subsequently, in the 2019 General Elections, she was nominated by the TMC to contest the Asansol Constituency against Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who is a former Indian playback singer-turned-politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
