Nikita Bier

Nikita Bier has made significant contributions in the tech industry as both a founder and entrepreneur. Currently serving as the Founder of Gas and a member of the Growth team at Discord, he played a key role in Discord’s acquisition of Gas, a compliments-based social media app for teens. Gas achieved remarkable success, ranking No. 1 in the US and Canadian App Store with $11 million in sales and 10 million downloads.

EDUCATION

Nikita’s academic background includes a stint as a Research Analyst at the University of California, Berkeley (Sep 2009 – May 2010), where he evaluated the viability of a micro-health insurance instrument in Cambodia.

In addition to his business endeavors, Nikita pursued education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Political Economy. He garnered distinctions such as Dean’s Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa, Charles H. Percy Prize, Big Ideas @ Berkeley (First Prize), and Undergraduate Research Apprentice.

Further educational experiences include the Summer Language Institute at the University of Virginia (2007) and study abroad programs at the University of Copenhagen (2011) and UCLA (2010). Nikita B. graduated from Palos Verdes High School in 2008.

CAREER

As the Co-founder and CEO of Gas, Nikita was instrumental in its positive impact on the teen demographic. The app, designed to spread positivity, garnered attention and recognition for its innovative approach.

Beyond his role at Gas, Nikita has been an influential figure as an Advisor and Angel Investor. Over the years (2017 – Present), he has provided guidance to various companies, including Citizen, Flo Health, Wealthsimple, Saturn, and Unacademy. His involvement spans investments at different stages, from seed funding to Series A and Series B.

Nikita’s tenure at Meta (formerly Facebook) from Nov 2017 to Nov 2021 saw him contributing to experimental app development as part of the NPE Team. This team focused on creating apps for students, chat, and music. His work at Meta showcased his commitment to exploring innovative ideas within the tech giant.

Before his time at Meta, Nikita made a mark with his role as the Co-founder and CEO of tbh from 2012 to June 2018. The app, an anonymous teen compliment platform, was acquired by Facebook and reached the top position in the App Store, accumulating over 9 million users and securing significant funding.

His entrepreneurial journey also includes co-founding Outline (Feb 2013 – Feb 2014), where he developed a public policy simulator. Politify (Aug 2011 – Nov 2012), another venture, was recognized for its eye-opening visualization tool for evaluating the economic impact of presidential candidates’ policies.

Nikita’s journey reflects a diverse set of skills, from founding successful ventures to contributing in advisory and investment roles, showcasing a commitment to innovation and a deep involvement in shaping the tech landscape.
