Preston Duffee On American Idol 21

At 21 years old, Duffee auditioned for American Idol, capturing the judges’ hearts with his original song, “Something to Write About,” a tribute to his late mother.

Regrettably, Preston’s mother faced escalating challenges with bipolar disorder and depression. Tragically, her struggles reached a peak when she took her own life during a family cookout, leaving Preston and his sister bereft and struggling to sustain themselves and their home. The absence of their mother’s steadfast support has made the past few months exceptionally challenging for them.

In challenging times, music became a lifeline for Preston. Reflecting on this, he remarked, “Music has truly been a lifesaver, aiding in my coping and even putting food on my table.”

His sister Shannon provided encouragement, expressing their mom’s unwavering belief in him. “I think [mom] knew you could do great things,” she added.
At the event, Duffee presented an original composition titled “Something to Write About,” inspired by life’s trials. The song conveyed the comforting realization that challenging moments contribute to meaning and purpose in both life and music.

American Idol returns stronger than ever for its twenty-first season! Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, this marks the sixth season since the show’s revival. Notably, the audition process underwent significant changes due to Covid-19, featuring remote auditions held from August 3 to September 14, 2022.

Moreover, the show reintroduced the “Platinum Ticket,” offering three fortunate contestants the opportunity to skip ahead to Hollywood Week and choose their duet partners.
The path to becoming America’s next singing idol is arduous but captivating. Viewers can track every step and cheer for their favorites—from regional auditions to Hollywood Week and through the demanding live shows. American Idol delivers a close-up view of some of the most promising up-and-coming talent, offering an emotional roller coaster for everyone involved with plenty of surprises and intense performances.
