CAREER
At the age of 15, Raghunandan’s family relocated to Mumbai to join his brother in running an eatery, driven by their less-than-ideal financial circumstances. They resided together in a modest 12 by 12-foot room (kholi) located in a chawl in the Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai.
Following numerous struggles and setbacks, Raghunandan Kamath, the son of a Mangalore fruit vendor, saw his passion and persistence rewarded. In 1984, he inaugurated the first Natural Ice Cream store in Mumbai’s Juhu, Vile Parle area, employing four staff members and offering ten delicious ice cream flavors.
To achieve this, he leveraged his father’s expertise in selecting the ripest fruits. Raghunandan opted for a straightforward approach, using basic ingredients of fruit, sugar, and milk. As a result, his ice creams quickly gained immense popularity. Within a year, he discontinued selling Pav Bhaji, and Naturals transformed into a fully-fledged ice cream brand.
Presently, the brand boasts 135 outlets spanning various cities nationwide. In 2020, they achieved an impressive turnover of Rs 300 crore. Furthermore, in the 2021 KPMG survey, Naturals earned recognition by being listed among the top 10 brands for exceptional customer experience.
