CAREER

S. Krishnan, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) by the Central Government.

“Krishnan is presently fulfilling the role of Chief Secretary in the Industries, Investment, Promotion, and Commerce Department of Tamil Nadu. This marks his return to Central deputation after nearly 12 years. His previous Central deputation included an overseas assignment, and prior to that, he served as the Private Secretary (2004-2007) to the former Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram.

In his role as Associate Vice President at ICT Academy, a prominent social enterprise focused on bridging the skill gap between industry and academia, he oversees strategic planning, national special initiatives, corporate partnerships, government projects, education technology, marketing, and advocacy. He has been a part of ICT Academy since 2012, progressively advancing through various positions in key management.

Krishnan will assume the position previously held by Alkesh Kumar Sharma, who retired on August 31. Krishnan will now take charge of the government’s ambitious semiconductor mission, which was initiated during Sharma’s tenure as Secretary at MeitY.”

Krishnan will additionally be responsible for supervising the implementation of the recently passed Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, which is the culmination of nearly five years of drafting and consultations.”

He regularly addresses diverse forums, promoting Skill India, Digital India, Startup India, Make in India, and career development.
