Sneha Dubey, an officer of the 2012 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), gained international recognition in September 2021 for her powerful response to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan’s misuse of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) platform. In her speech, she boldly called out Khan for propagating false information, supporting terrorism, and raising the Kashmir issue during his address. Dubey’s eloquent and widely shared rebuttal on social media earned her the admiration of millions of Indians.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Born in 1993 in Jamshedpur (Tatanagar), Jharkhand, Sneha Dubey completed her schooling at Manovikas School in Margao, Goa. Her father, J.P. Dubey, is employed in a multinational company, while her mother is a teacher. Her brother, Swapnil Dubey, is a businessman.

EDUCATION

Sneha Dubey pursued her undergraduate studies at Fergusson College, Pune, graduating in 2008. In 2010, she obtained an M.A. and M.Phil in Geography and Geopolitics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

CAREER

Dubey’s career in the Ministry of External Affairs began in December 2013, where she served as an Under-Secretary for nine months. She later assumed the position of Third Secretary at the Embassy of India in Madrid, Spain. Currently, she serves as India’s First Secretary to the United Nations.

During the September 2021 UNGA session, when Imran Khan raised the Kashmir issue and terrorism, Sneha Dubey delivered a scathing response through her speech on September 25, 2021. Her impactful words gained widespread attention on Twitter, as she vehemently condemned Imran Khan for nurturing terrorism within Pakistan’s borders. Dubey exposed Pakistan’s misuse of international platforms to spread false and malicious propaganda against India, highlighting their facilitation of terrorists operating freely and their mistreatment of minority communities within the country.
