ABOUT

Sumedha, who celebrated 36 years of companionship with Satyarthi on October 8, considers the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to her husband and his unwavering dedication to child rights as the greatest honor. As a young wife with a one-year-old son, she provided steadfast support to Satyarthi when he chose to forsake his engineering career for activism back in 1980. During that time, the couple initiated a publication titled “Sangharsh Jari Rahega” to advocate for the rights of the marginalized.

Sumedha frequently participated in rescue operations alongside her husband, Kailash Satyarthi. She currently serves as a director overseeing the Jaipur Bal Ashram for Bachpan Bachao Andolan. Together with her husband, they instilled a passion for activism in their children.

Their son, Bhuwan Ribhu, a lawyer, leads the workers at Bachpan Bachao Andolan and is a well-known activist.
Satyarthi’s daughter, Asmita, aged 29 and holding an economics degree, is actively involved in advocating for children’s rights. She has actively participated in campaigns, including the fight against child labor in the firecracker industry. The family has experienced challenging times where they faced significant threats. As a principle, they do not use a surname, a choice that reflects their commitment to fostering a culture of equality.
