In 2003, Kip Chapman embarked on his acting journey, making his debut in the short film “Cut Out.” He subsequently graced the television screen in 2005, appearing in the series “Interrogation.” However, it was his notable role in “The Hothouse,” skillfully directed by Danny Mulheron, that propelled him into the spotlight, earning him his initial recognition. Chapman’s talent further shone through in various productions, including “The Cult” as Andy, “The Making of the Mob” as Hymie Weiss, and “Top of the Lake” as Luke Mitchim. Most recently, he seized the opportunity to be a part of the renowned series “The Lord of the Rings.”
Chapman’s theatrical achievements commenced at a young age when he was just twelve years old, captivating audiences in “The Red Balloon” at The Court Theatre. His theatrical repertoire encompasses captivating performances in notable plays such as “The Goat,” “The Talented Mr Ripley,” “Equus,” “Lobby Hero,” “Big River,” “The Caretaker,” “Flagons and Foxtrots,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “Black Confetti,” and “The Glass Menagerie.” An impressive endeavor of his was co-creating and co-writing the theater show “Arohaotearoa” alongside James Milne, with its premiere in 2004 at SILO.
In 2019, Chapman undertook the role of Will in the series “Westside,” which aired on Three. Beyond his acting pursuits, he also showcased his creativity as a creative director at The World of Wearable Arts, an esteemed stage show and world-renowned design competition in New Zealand in 2017.
