Venugopal Dhoot is a businessman from India. He is the chairman, CEO, and managing director of Videocon, a multinational conglomerate based in India. He was arrested by the CBI in the ICICI-Videocon loan scam case in 2022.

Venugopal Nandlal Dhoot was born in Mumbai on September 30, 1951. His astrological sign is Libra.
He is married to Ramabai Dhoot, a member of the Videocon Group’s board of directors.
Anirudh Dhoot, his son, is the director of Videocon Group.
Surabhi Dhoot and Tanushri Dhoot are his two daughters.

CAREER

Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot started the Videocon Group in 1984. Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot determined in 1985 to make one lakh television sets every year. Anirudh Dhoot said in an interview that Videocon was the first company to deliver colour televisions to India. Videocon Telecommunications Limited, Hindustan Oil Ventures Limited, Videocon Energy Limited, Jumbo Techno Services Private Limited, and Senior Consulting Private Limited are all run by Venugopal Dhoot. According to reports, Venugopal Dhoot established Videocon as one of India’s leading brands of colour televisions. He was named managing director of Videocon Industries Limited in 2005. He was re-appointed as Videocon Group’s managing director for another five years in 2010.

The corporation had 17 manufacturing facilities in India and plants in numerous other countries, including Mainland China, Mexico, Poland, and Italy. Following losses in its oil industries, the company suspended trading nationally and internationally in June 2018 and filed for bankruptcy.

CONTROVERSY

The CBI questioned Venugopal Dhoot on the ICICI-Videocon loan dispute in April 2018. The CBI has enquired about him, Chanda Kochhar’s husband, Deepak Kochhar, and others in connection with the alleged authorization of a Rs. 3,250 crore ICICI loan to the Videocon Group. On December 23, 2022, the CBI arrested Chanda Kochhar and her husband, Deepak Kochhar, for certain alleged irregularities in an ICICI Bank loan of Rs. 3,000 crore to Videocon Group when the bank was led by Chanda Kochhar. The CBI charged her with criminal conspiracy and deception in connection with suspected irregularities in a Rs. 3,250 crore loan to Videocon Group, which became non-performing assets (NPA) for ICICI Bank in 2017.
According to sources, Deepak Kochhar, Chanda Kochhar’s husband, co-founded NuPower Renewables alongside Venugopal Dhoot. Venugopal Dhoot invested in NuPower Renewables with the help of an ICICI Bank loan.  Venugopal Dhoot was arrested by the CBI on December 26, 2022, for his involvement in the ICICI Bank-Videocon Fraud case.
