Soon after finishing high school, she enrolled at Bhavans College in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to pursue a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree in history. She later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from NMIMS Global in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and a Master of Archaeology from Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute in Pune, Maharashtra. She moved to Mumbai with her family when she was six years old. According to her, her father and mother met on the sets of the Doordarshan television serial Tanhai in 1992 and later married.

Jhanak Shukla made her acting debut in the 2003 Bollywood film Kal Ho Na Ho, alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Priety Zinta. Gia Kapur, Jenny Kapur’s (Jaya Bachchan) adopted daughter, was played by her.
Jhanak Shukla then starred in the 2006 film Deadline: Sirf 24 Ghante. She portrayed Anishka Goenka, the kidnapped daughter of Rajit Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma, in this film. The late Indian actor Irrfan Khan also appeared in the film.
Jhanak Shukla made her film debut in the 2006 film One Night with the King. Jhanak Shukla played Princy in the television series Son Pari in 2000.
