Juergen Mueller has an extensive and influential career in the field of technology and innovation, primarily within the SAP SE organization. He currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer and Executive Board Member at SAP SE, a leading multinational software and technology company based in the Berlin Metropolitan Area, Germany.

In terms of education, Juergen Mueller holds a Doctor of Engineering degree in IT Systems Engineering from the Hasso Plattner Institute and a Diploma in Information Systems from The University of Göttingen.

CAREER

Since January 2019, Juergen has been responsible for managing technology and innovation at SAP. His role encompasses overseeing the development of the SAP Business Technology Platform, which consolidates various aspects of application development, data management, analytics, planning, integration, and artificial intelligence capabilities into a unified environment optimized for SAP applications. Furthermore, he leads innovation efforts related to SAP’s platform and new technologies.

Prior to his role as Chief Technology Officer, Juergen served as the Chief Innovation Officer at SAP from July 2016 to December 2018. In this capacity, he had global responsibilities for driving SAP’s innovation agenda. This included identifying and exploring emerging technologies, such as blockchain and quantum computing, and incubating innovations with significant business potential, such as machine learning. He was also tasked with creating new business models and market-driven innovations, as well as fostering an entrepreneurial culture within SAP. Juergen’s role extended to defining and executing SAP’s innovation strategy and advising the SAP Executive Board on innovation-related matters.

During his tenure as the Chief Innovation Officer, Juergen also assumed the role of Managing Director of SAP Labs Berlin from June 2016 to August 2018. In this dual role, he actively contributed to SAP’s innovation efforts in the Greater Berlin region. He promoted collaboration with universities, public institutions, design communities, startups, and other local companies, establishing a strong innovation footprint in the area. Talent development and acquisition from the region were integral parts of his responsibilities.

In addition to his roles at SAP, Juergen served as an advisor to Lition Blockchain from May 2018 to September 2020, offering his expertise in the blockchain space.

Before his corporate leadership roles, Juergen Mueller was involved in research and teaching at the Hasso Plattner Institute. During his time there from April 2007 to August 2013, he worked as a Research & Teaching Assistant and Chair Representative. His contributions included participating in research projects related to In-Memory Data Management and completing his PhD, which focused on applications optimized for In-Memory Databases under the supervision of Professor Hasso Plattner. He also served as the co-representative of Professor Plattner’s research chair at the Hasso Plattner Institute, which is affiliated with the University of Potsdam in Germany. His academic journey also involved studying business informatics and spending significant time in China during his studies.

Throughout his career, Juergen has played a pivotal role in shaping SAP’s technological and innovation landscape, driving the company’s growth, and exploring emerging technologies to meet evolving business needs. His leadership and contributions to the world of technology and innovation have made him a notable figure in the industry.
